America First Policy Institute (AFPI) is proud to highlight the efforts of the Center for Opportunity Now through its launch event in Atlanta.

Here at AFPI, we believe that OPPORTUNITY is a concept deeply rooted in the American Dream. Indeed, the story of America is the story of OPPORTUNITY. From early settlers exploring an untamed continent to small business owners turning the wheels of the greatest Nation on Earth today, OPPORTUNITY lies at the very core of who we are as a people.

Opportunity Zones

That is why the Trump Administration’s Opportunity Zones initiative was such a groundbreaking concept. This was not another top-down, Washington, D.C.-led effort. Instead, this was the conservative vision in action: an unleashing of the private sector to drive real, sustainable change in our country’s forgotten communities.

Spearheaded by leaders like Dr. Ben Carson and Senator Tim Scott, Opportunity Zones have been an astounding success. In just the first few years, the Council of Economic Advisors reported that Opportunity Zones spurred over $75 billion in private investment, created over 500,000 jobs, and lifted more than 1 million Americans out of poverty.

THAT is the promise of the Center for Opportunity Now. THAT is the American Dream in action.

Fatherhood

But at AFPI, we also believe that FATHERHOOD plays a key role in lifting these forgotten communities out of cycles of generational poverty and onto the path of self-sufficiency.

The data is clear: fatherlessness lies at the heart of many social ills in America today—and the United States leads the world in the number of children growing up without two parents in the home. From criminal activity to mental illness, suicide to drug use, and everything in between, America faces a crisis of fatherlessness.

The Center for Opportunity Now believes that strong families are VITAL to strong communities, and strong communities form the foundation of a strong country. With that in mind, AFPI will work to end the epidemic of fatherlessness by raising awareness, educating policymakers, building coalitions, and supporting policies from education to tax incentives that help restore the two-parent household in communities across America.

The Way Forward

In the days ahead, the Center for Opportunity Now will focus its efforts on these core pillars of opportunity: revitalization through deregulation and market-based incentives and generational stability by promoting strong families.

President Trump’s entire administration was an all-out effort to elevate America’s forgotten men and women. At AFPI, we are proud to carry on that legacy. Thank you for your prayers and support.
